Configuring device’s static IP using WiFi router’s DHCP server
Make sure device is not using Randomized MAC address! (only applies to Android 10+ devices)
By default, Android 10+ uses randomized MAC address to identify itself on the network, in order to protect user’s privacy.
You can read more about this feature in Android documentation.
Unfortunately, this prevents DHCP from identifying the device and correctly assigning the IP address to it, and must therefore be disabled.
To set static IP using Wi-Fi router’s DHCP server:
- On a computer connected to the Wi-Fi network on which the target device will be used, open administration page of the Wi-Fi router in your web browser.
IP address of the router, along with username and password, can usually be found on a sticker attached to the router. - Open DHCP settings (usually organized under LAN settings)
- Enable „Manual Assignment“ (or similarly called feature)
- Manually assign IP address in the DHCP IP range to the device’s MAC address.
The device’s MAC address can be found in the device’s network settings.
